Queens of the Stone Age - Queens of the Stone Age

A lot of mornings in my car I listen to one of my absolute favourite albums of all time: Queens of the Stone Age's self-titled debut album. It always puts me in a good mood to start the day's work. Don't know precisely why, it just does. Especially the instrumental song Hispanic Impressions. So here's a very short review:

Not long after Kyuss's breakup, Josh Homme decided to start a new band. He wrote all of the songs on the album and also played most of the instruments on the recording. Rocking, droning, strange, mysterious in some cases. Some things we can call this:

  • Desert rock
  • Stoner rock
  • Robot rock

I still struggle to figure out what is my favourite QOTSA album, it's difficult because all their music is so good. They seemed to have created a niche in music, that desert/stoner rock vibe - they are the kings (queens?) of that genre, a lot of bands reference them as big influences.

Classic band-debut-album. Favourite song: Avon
